Scott’s passion for his craft is obvious as he talks about hats as part fashion piece, part practical equipment.

“I personally love hats; I’ve always loved hats,” he said. “Hats are kind of the pinnacle of fashion. They’re the highest thing you put on your body and are super fashionable.”

More importantly, he said, hats occupy a special place in the Western, cowboy culture of Utah.

“People are very particular about their hats and want their hats built and shaped and looking a specific way,” Scott said. “We gain much gratification building a hat just like the customer wants it from start to finish and delivering it so they’re happy and returning and, you know, using it as a tool on a daily basis.”

Scott said he loves being a salesman, but he’s chosen his craft because of his love for hats and their place in Western life.

“It’s not about the money at all because we’re not getting rich here by any means,” Scott said. “We’re just doing a very, very beautiful process of building something that you'd wear on a daily basis.”
